How to take care of Peace Lily?

Temperature

It's a tropical plant, so it won't do too well in hot weather. You'll need to take extra care of it in hot summers. It can usually handle temperatures between 10 and 30°C (65 to 85°F). That's usually the temperature you'd expect the plant to survive in. They can't handle the heat or cold, so they don't do well.

Humidity

It's a tropical plant that thrives on high humidity. It could be a great plant to have in your bathroom, especially if you want to keep it in indirect light.

Watering

It's important to be careful when watering Peace lilies because they love moist soil and don't like being watered too much or too little. Make sure the ground isn't wet. Water from the roots, not in the tray. The water in the tray and the roots will absorb the moisture. They can also get root rot, so make sure you keep the right balance when watering them.
Peace lily will show you how much it doesn't like it when you over- or under-water it. Its leaves will droop.

They're sensitive to chemicals, so make sure they're watered with distilled water, rainwater, or tap water that's been left to sit for 24 hours. Chlorine will evaporate from the water after a few hours.

Lighting

They don't like bright light, so it's best to keep them about 6-8 feet away from the window, and indirect light should do the trick.

Repotting

They need to be re-arranged every 1 to 2 years when:

  • Crowded stalks of the plant
  • Crowded roots
  • Yellowing leaf

The ground you're planting the peace lily on should be like the soil in a rainforest - rich in organic matter that's rotting away.

  • Peat
  • Composite bark
  • Sand
  • Fertilizer
The mixture should be used for repotting.

Fertilizer

Once a month, give your plant a good dose of liquid fertilizer. If you're looking to do this, it's probably best to do it in the spring or summer. Make sure the fertilizer is full of phosphorous, since plants don't need it all the time.

Propagation

If you want to make a new plant, you could divide it from the old plant and repot it.
